The first black supermodel "fashion people", passed away on Saturday in Newark, NJ at the age of 61. She was battling cancer and unfortunately lost. My heart goes out to her and her family. Sims made a crazy breakthrough when she appeared on the cover of
Ladies Home Journal in 1968. She was the first black model to appear on a high mainstream magazine which is a big deal in the fashion world. Throughout her career, she has graced magazines such as
Essence and
Life. She has also done many big run way shows. After modeling, she started her own line of cosmetics for African American Women. She even wrote books. But to learn more about her just
GOOGLE her of course.
